“On the Front Lines” Webinar Series, September 12—New Technology and Workflow Optimization in the Microbiology Lab: Working Together to Improve Patient Care

By the bioMérieux Connection Editors

bioMérieux’s “On the Front Lines” webinar series brings together laboratory and clinical professionals to share best practices for optimizing diagnostic data and technology for better antimicrobial stewardship. During our September 12, 2019 webinar, titled, “New Technology and Workflow Optimization in the Microbiology Lab: Working Together to Improve Patient Care,” Dr. Allison McMullen, Ph.D., D(ABMM), will share how microbiology is meeting today’s clinical challenges in the context of Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs (ASPs).

While clinical microbiology has historically been slower to change than other fields, recent technological and workflow improvements have helped speed up results and provide deeper clinical insights to positively impact patient care. Leveraging her experience at Augusta University, Dr. McMullen will focus especially on blood culture technology, explore the laboratory workflow environment, and explain the importance of workflow optimization paired with new technologies for better patient care.

Since 2016, Dr. McMullen has been an Assistant Professor of Pathology at Augusta University and the Medical Director of the Clinical Microbiology Lab at AU Medical Center. She received her doctoral degree studying the molecular epidemiology of West Nile virus at the University of Texas Medical Branch.

Dr. McMullen completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Chronic Viral Diseases Branch of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This was followed by a second fellowship in medical and public health microbiology at Washington University in St. Louis. Her research focuses primarily on antimicrobial susceptibility testing and resistance and new technology for clinical microbiology.

Professional Acknowledgment for Continuing Education (P.A.C.E.®) credits will be offered for this webinar. To register for Dr. McMullen’s webinar, click here.
